Toustaine, and the origin of 'Tustin'
Greetings,
I was intrigued to read elsewhere on this Forum, the
suggestion that one origin (at least) for the Tustin
namein England might be a Marcher Lord by the name of
Toustaine.
Specifically, Melissa Ann Harmon said that her ancestor
Clinton Tustin had heard of a "Toustaine Fritz Rou le
blanc" (or should that be, Fitz-Rou?), meaning 'Tustin,
son of the White Duke', who was said to be the son of
'William the White' who had accompanied William I 'the
Conquerer from Normandy to England in 1066 CE.Toustaine
is supposed to have been 'given an estate in what is now
Wales'.
Does anyone have any historical documentation on this
possibility?A quick Web search, and looking at
www.domesdaybook.co.uk has revealed nothing.
Many thanks,
Amanda
