Illegitimate Tussey line? Jackson Co. KY
Having been told "we should have been Tussey's" I started digging into my family's past. My grandfather, born 1893 in Jackson Co was the son of John A.(Allen?) Summers, born 1867. John's mother was Nancy Summers, born 1839(28 when John was born), daughter of Allen Summers, born 1818, all in Jackson Co, KY.
John's father was said to be Lawson Tussey, however he did not live with him and was not raised by him. As the story goes, John's father left him and he was raised by his grandfather Allen Summers. Out of respect, he took his grandfather's name - Summers.
And that is the story of why we are the Summers family and not the Tussey family.
The only Lawson Tussey I can find is Jacob Lawson Tussey, born 1822, and buried at Flat Top Cemetery,Jackson Co, KY. He would have been 45 at the time of John's birth.
I can find no records of spouse or children for Jacob Lawson Tussey and I am hoping someone will share that info. Considering his tombstone planted in front of the Flat Top church, instead of in the cemetery behind, I wondered if perhaps he was the Reverend Jacob Tussey I have seen mentioned. Any info will be greatly appreciated. You can also contact me via eMail...
