Jacob Everett Tussey
Greetings.
I am new to this site.
My name is Jacob Tussey McLeroy.
My paternal grandmother was Lillian (Tussey) McLeroy.
Her father was Jacob Everett Tussey.
J.E.T. had two sisters, Bessie and Jessie. He had another daughter, Helen. His wife's name was Amanda (Millikan) Tussey.
JET lived in Savanah, Georgia from at least the 1920's until his death in the mid 1960's. He lived for some time in North Carolina and may have been born there. The family line goes back to central Pennsylvania. I assume there is some connection to Tussey Mountain near State College. The family legend is that there were two brothers with the surname Tausig who were Hessian generals fighting as mercenaries on the British side of the revolutionary war. At the end of the war they decided to stay and adopted the anglicized surname Tussey.
After scanning a few postings here, I gather that there were Tussey's on the American side of the revolution and I wonder if there is a connection, or if my family's legend has any truth to it.
Can anyone fill in the missing pieces?
