Jan, I found this in a book I have -you may already have all this but here goes...
"St Thomas' Episcopal Church on the East side of the Big Island Road is one of the earliest churches in this county. (blah blah) Just north of this church on both sides ofRoute 122N lived the Thomas Turpin Family who had migrated from Chesterfield County sometime after the Rev. War. Thomas Turpin married Rachel Cheatwood, daughter of William Cheatwood of Powhatan County and sister of Jesse Spinners first wife, Celia Cheatwood.
The Turpins had ten children: Elisha, Elizabeth married Sanford Halley,Josiah married Frances Burton, Philip married Elvira Clayton, Thomas Jr. married Mary Polina Clayton, Roland married first Margaret Logwood and secondly widow Elizabeth Wilson Reid, William C. married Alice Smith, John married first Eliza W. Clayton and secondly Mary M. Lambert, Vincent married Sarah A. Lane and Milly was unmarried. Philip and Thomas Turpin Jr. resided in thisarea and left many descendants. The Russell Turpin family used oxen on their farm. Today the property on the east side of the road is owned by Ray Tolley." This was taken from pages 122 & 123 (the Sedalia section) of the
book "Bedford Villages Lost and Found Vol.2.
Compiled by The Peaks of Otter Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution Bedford, Virginia. There is mention of the Tom Turpin family cemetery also. Hope this helps- contact me personally if you have any questions.
