I saw your posting on the GenForum. You are correct about the William Turpins. There are several. Ashby Turpin was my great grandfather. Going back from him, the following is my line out of Somerset County, MD. My Turpins were from that part of Somerset County that became Wicomico County after the Civil War. i. Ashby Turpin (1861-1944) and Mary Virginia Sparks ii.Thomas James Turpin (1834-1906) and Elmanda Kennerly iii. John Upshur Turpin (ca 1800-bet. 1850-1860) and Zipporah Goslee iv. William Turpin (ca 1758-aft. 1822) and wife Leah? (In 1810 William was in Great Annemessex Hundred with his wife. He may have had as many as 6 sons & 4 daughters) As of this posting, I know only of two: John Upshur Turpin and his sister Anne S. Turpin. v. Denwood Turpin (ca 1732-1793) and wife (Denwood and wife had at least 5 children) vi. William Turpin (ca 1706) and Esther Denwood King (Esther's first husband was Upshur King.) vii. William Turpin (ca 1677-1755) and Sarah Whitty (Sarah's father was Richard Whitty.) viii. * William Turpin (1650-1685) and Margaret Ivery (Founders of the Maryland line of the Turpins.) * WILLIAM TURPIN was born c.1650 and died c.1685 in Somerset County, Md. He was transported to Maryland by Luke Gardiner in 1661. (This information came from Nabb Research Center in Salisbury, MD.) In addition to the Nabb Research Center in Salisbury, MD, another excellent source is "The Littleton Heritage" by Matthew M. Wise.(c. 1997, Wentworth Printing Corp.)
