Thanks for the Reply Sharon. I'm not sure what can be done. I know of at least two other very old cemetery's that this has happened to in Tennessee, both of which I arrived too late. The one in Kingston TN was of some of the earlies settlers of Roane County. A developer bull dozed the stones into a deep valley and was covering them up when a concerned citizen stoped him only long enough to get several of the smaller stones he could save by hand. The developer built a house in the center of the lot and didn't tell potential buyesr that it was a cemetery.
I don't live in Jefferson County, however I do know that there is a small volunteer group that takes care of the old court house historical records. They may be able to help. I'm not sure how to contact them.
