Mary Alice Turnipseed born MO.
I need help on the identity of "Mary Alice Stroupe" born in Crawford County, MO (1859) as the result of an obituary posted on the Franklin County Boards (MO) at Ancestry.com. Mary Alice Stroup's daughters, Etta and Francis Clementine, married at Washington County brothers, Avery Adolphus and Gilbert Lee, to my great grandfather, Joseph Henry Hansell.
According to Social Security records of Etta and Clems' brother Thomas Walter Stroup, born October 15 1893 at Franklin County, MO, his father was "Jake" Stroup and his mother was Mary Alice Turnipseed. According to records, Mary Alice's father was born in New York. A search of a number of sources reveals no Turnipseeds in New York until into the 20th Century. Before that most locations are Ohio and the South. Then there is a possibility that Turnipseed is not Mary Alice's birth name. Also I find no qualifying individuals in 1860 Crawford County, Missouri. Perhaps Mary Alice's mother stayed with family of her mother, whoever that could be, in 1859 Crawford County and they left before the 1860 census. I do not find many early Turnipseed record for Missouri. Any ideas?
