Who was Blewford Turner in 1830?
Can anyone identify the Blewford Turner who was among those inheriting from Nanny/Nancy Turner in Person County in 1830?
I haven’t found Blewford elsewhere. In message 19152 of this forum, about those heirs, I said I had found him on the tax list for neighboring Halifax County, VA, for 1804, but I now believe that was a mistake in my abstract or the list, as, except for that one year, a Blewford Oliver appears on the lists from 1803 through at least 1824. I can rule out a mistake in the other direction, that is, that the heir was Blewford Oliver, since Blewford Oliver’s family is well known and he wouldn’t have been a heir of Nanny Turner’s.
I first thought Nanny’s heir might have been just a boy, since his share was paid out to William Stanfield, but Stanfield had a power of attorney, and I don’t think he would have needed one if he had been Blewford’s guardian. It seems more likely that Blewford was living elsewhere.
The given name Blewford comes with several other spellings, most commonly Bluford and Blueford, and it was not at all unusual in the area.
Any help?
