She was born 104 years ago on September 30, 1905, to the late K. L. and Finettia (Brickey) Baber in Banner, VA, which is located Wise Co VA. She was 1 of 14 children, and the last survivor. Katherine attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Coeburn, VA, where she taught the children’s Sunday School class for 25 years. Her faith in God carried her through many trials and tribulations and then home to the Lord. In her century of life she witnessed many events, and many changes in our world as she faced each earthly day with a smile. She was married to the late Leo Turner, who preceded her in death in 1987. They shared a home in Toms Creek and Banner all of their married life, and raised their children and grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her adopted grandson, Leon Turner. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth and husband Steve Price; her grandchildren, Shawndi Mills (Roger Mills) and Shira Price; her adopted grandchildren whom she loved very much, Arlene Fields, Randy Turner (Lily Turner), Sherry Maynard (Sam Maynard), Tommy, Ricky, Brenda, and Ronnie; seven great grandchildren; many great great grand- children; three cousins who were like sisters to her, the Barrowman sisters, Alma, Maxie, and June; and many other family members and friends. Visitation for Katherine Turner will be held after 6 p.m., Saturday, September 26, 2009, at Estes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, September 27, 2009, at the Church of God of Prophecy on Grand Avenue, in Coeburn, VA, with Brother Ival Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA, on Monday, September 28, 2009. The family will meet at Estes Funeral Home on Monday at 11 a.m., and leave in procession to the cemetery.
