THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!That does help!I have been researching my grandfathers heritage, he was Cherokee and Choctaw. His name was Floyd (Jack) Turnage born 1923.He is the neiphew of Eugenia Turnage (born 1868).His father was Wesley Turnage (Genie's brother) who lived in Idabel, OK on a Choctaw reservation during the time it was indian territory.
I have been trying to learn more about our indian ancestry and where it came from. The oldest elder in our family, Jack Turnage (another nephew of Eugenia Turnage, son of her brother Charles) said that Eugenia (Genie) was very short, about 4 11' and had long black hair and eyes as dark as coal.He said she looked full blooded Choctaw.
I was trying to get ahold of any of her descendants to see if she passed on any of the family stories or answers regarding the indian heritage.I figured mothers are more likely to pass down those things than men are (her brothers in other words).I was told her brother Wesly barely spoke English, that his English was very broken and that he felt more comfortable speaking Choctaw.
Has anyone in your family discussed this?Very anxiouse to hear back from you.You can also email me directly at:
