Sally - The 1852 census for Clinton County was an Iowa state census, not the federal census. Doesn't mean it's accurate, of course, and I have nothing to tie this Thomas Turly to my line. But I am intrigued that he shows up so close to Scott County, which is were his daughter is said to be from when she got married. I use ancestry.com and found it on there. Since I find him nowhere else, and he probably was alive in 1850, I think the census taker probably horribly misspelled his name, or wrote it so illegibly that the person who indexed it got it wrong. I have even tried reading through the census records for likely areas, line by line, and so far no luck!

Hoping the LDS films I have ordered will show something on him. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Nora
