Thanks for checking, Sally!

This has been one of my brick walls that I am attacking again. I have no bmd dates on Thomas Turley/Turly at all, other than that he and his wife (unk) were both b VT and married there (per census). He has at least two daughters, Adelade b 1845/46 Iowa and Rosa Belle b 1848 Wisc. I descend from Rosa, who was known in family lore as an "orphan." I found her father's first name of Thomas on the 1925 Iowa census for Rosa Belle, who married Noah W. Gwin.

A short bio on Noah Gwin stated his wife, Rosa Belle Turley, was a "native of Scott County," Iowa. I find no traces of these Turleys there. I do have one photo of Rosa Belle in her teens, and I can trace the photographer named on it to Davenport, Scott Co., Iowa. This confirms she was in that county before she married Noah Gwin in 1869.

An Iowa County history book related that a Ms. Addie Furley (sic) was the sister of Mrs. Noah W. Gwin and was one of the first teachers in the school in Victor, Iowa Co., IA. That is where I got the connection between Rosa and Adelade.

A probate document from 1858 for Poweshiek Co., Iowa, shows Adelade Turley was under 14 and without family, and a guardian was appointed for her, Samuel W. Bosley. I found Adelade at 14 in the Bosley household on the 1860 US census for Montezuma, Poweshiek Co., Iowa. There she is said to be born in Iowa, and her parents both b VT.

I recently found a Thomas TURLY on the 1852 IA state census in Lyons, Clinton County. Only head of household is given, but it lists 1 male and 4 females in the home. AND, Clinton County adjoins Scott County, where I know Rosa was a few years later.

Sadly, that is the sum total of what I have on Thomas. Not much to work with going backwards on him, I realize. I am awaiting LDS films for Clinton County to see if he turns up there in court, probate, or land records. I'm also going to check Poweshiek and Iowa Co. LDS films for any marriage on Adelade.

Thanks again for your efforts in the lookup. I thought it was a long shot, but worth asking anyhow.
