Turkish migrants in Brussels

Hello everybody,

I am doing research on the familyhistory of Turkish migrants from first generation in Brussels( Belgium). Many Turkish people migrated from 1964 onwards to Belgium to work.

While trying to reconstruct their histories i got confronted with some questions.
How do you people or Turkish descendants try to make your family history? Do you depart from the idea of genealogy as a science and do you go looking for official documents to put the facts in a chronological order.

The problem here is that the names and dates, registered in the migrantarchives are not very veracious. The migrants often invented just the adaquate age in order to get into the hostcountry.

Or do you opt for oral history? And do different interviews based on different family topics, and the migrationproces.

Then i have another question. Does anyone of you know Turkish migrants living in Brussels. Or is anyone related to the family TürkÖz, of Koksal, a two Turkish families living in Brussels, Schaarbeek.

Thanks in advance

Kathleen De Blauwe
