A Czech friend told me that the correct pronunciation in Europe is TOOR-ihk or TOOR-eck. That is the also the way I've heard people say the name of the hockey player Roman Turek from the Czech Republic. Most Americans seem to have a little difficulty with the name, so it was often shortened to Turk (there are lots of Turks and Tureks around Chicago). I've always used tur-ECK, but I've heard others use TOO-reck in the USA. How do you say it?
