Hello Cheri:

Came across your postings while browsing the Internet looking for surname dictionaries. I
am English, although living in Northern California. Although quite rare, there are a number of Tunneys in England. My father, also Peter Tunney, was born in in County Durham in 1914, his father Francis was killed in WW1 along with his brother. Their names are inscribed on the Menin Gate in Ypres.
Most of the Tunneys I know of originated in the NE of England, although I have heard talk of a migration to England from Ireland in the 19th century. That's probably when the family split up, some going to the USA and some to England.
Let me know if I can be of any help.

Best regards.
