I have and original copy of the 1926 book by Zella Armstrong Vol III " Notable Southern Families " It has several hunderd Tunnell names and she states the name Tonnelier was derived from the occupation of " Barrel Maker" or Cooper. It has the record of families going to England and Some to Germany and then to America. My Great Great Grandmother was Maria Lousia Tunnell who married William Scarbrough Freels in Anderson County in East Tennessee on Oct 10, 1833. She was the daughter of John and Nancy Worthington Tunnell. She was born here mar 18, 1810.JIF
