This is a long one folks, but worth reading if it can produce more family connections. Use the FIND feature of your browser to look for key words. Generation numbers are included to help sort out children in case the formatting gets funky in the transfer. Thanks!

==============
1-Allen MARTIN was born about 1800 in GA and died about 1879 in Bartow Co., GA.

General Notes: Per Sara Elsberry:
Living in this household in Aug, 1850 was William Parrish, 20, male, SC, Blacksmith. Perhaps a nephew of Allen??
Drew land in Walker Co., 1832 Lottery. Shown as being from Gwinnett County. Mother [Brenda's Note: Effie Mae Underwood] said Emma was the middle child with 7 older, 7 younger making a total of 15 children. She recalled the names Grover and Dewitt. She said Grover might have been a nephew. Dock may be a nickname for Dewitt. [Brenda's note: May also be Murdock]
Linda Trentham has b. date of Allen as 1792, GA. Where did she get this?

General Notes: Per Brenda Hawkins:
Several sources suggest that Allen’s father’s name was John Martin and that he married a “Miss Allen”, whose full name might be Mary Allen. [Have not been able to verify this at all, but still working on it.] Other sources recall family history that Allen might have been born in or near the Athens, GA area in Oglethorpe Co.

Per Sara Elsberry:
Nickname for Allen as "Rocky". [Brenda's note: Unable to determine source for this.]

Allen married Mary Ann "Polly" TUMLIN, daughter of William TUMLIN and Rebecca Agnes CARLISLE, about 1828 in GA. (Mary Ann "Polly" TUMLIN was born about 1806 in Abbeville Co., SC and died on 12 Sep 1887.)

Note: For further information on the GA Tumlin Family lineage, please contact Mr. Paul Tumlin at cpdt69@aol.com who has completed a large compiled volume on these folks.

May have had a son, W. T. Martin, who signed for registered letter to father.

Death Notes: From Robert McCoy:
Sol Lewis Martin told the story that one of his ancestors (believed to be George) died from a cut on his hand. Supposedly, George got drunk and cut his hand on a broken lantern in the barn. The cut became infected and he died.

George married Elizabeth KAY, daughter of Unk KAY and Unk UNKNOWN, on 27 Jul 1848 in GA. (Elizabeth KAY was born in 1831 in SC and died after 1880.)

General Notes:Elizabeth's parents are shown in 1880 Census (where?) with father born in SC and mother born in VA.

Birth Notes:Nancy Charlton notes that Elizabeth was born in Georgia.

General Notes:Tumlin research reports son Alonzo for John Martin and Sarah Elizabeth More, however, our research has not shown this child as of 6-26-2001. Alonzo could be the same person as John Lawner, since he appeared to be referred to as Lawner rather than John, and "Lon" could be a nickname for Lawner or Alonzo.

There is another Alonzo Martin born about the same time who is associated with the Great Train Chase in Adairsville, GA - His family is detailed below:

From the website:
http://www.andrewsraid.com/martin.html

Per Wilbur G. Kurtz description: “He is a chunky fellow, heavy set. Sandy whiskers – great head of auburn hair, large blue eyes, dressed in civilian clothes.” Employed by Western & Atlantic Railroad.

3-Mattie J. MARTIN was born on 28 Dec 1889 in AR and died on 19 Sep 1895.

General Notes: Esta Ross tells the story that Mattie had been sick so the family gave her a home remedy of "epicat". Epicat can be toxic, so nce taken, another dose of castor oil must be given within a certain time frame to flush the epicat out of the system. Evidently, the need for castor oil was forgotten and Mattie developed severe abdominal pains and died from the effects of the remedy.

Retarded per Mother [Effie Mae Underwood]. [Brenda's note: Allen Jr. did apparently marry and was appointed guardian of some of his sister's children (Emily R.) later, so questionable if Allen Jr. was actually retarded, and if so, probably only slight.]

Murdock married Emma HILL in 1884 in Gwinnett Co., GA. (Emma HILL was born about 1862.)
