here's what i can tell you about Samuel Tumbleson. he joined the Confederate army at the age of 16. he lied about his age to join. my dad has his shotgun from the war. there is a book called, "Voices from the Past" that i have in storage. it is about the various families from Montague county. my grandmother (Claudia Leigh Tumbleson, maiden name: Hampton i think), says that there is a bigger and more informative book availible now.
my grandfather (william shelly tumbleson 1918- 1999) had two siblings. they were frankie tumbleson (williams when married) and Homer Tumbleson. their parents were William Wesley Tumbleson (son of Samuel Tumbleson to the best of my knowledge) and Donna Maude Tumbleson (maiden name: Pollard). It is my understanding that Wm. Wesley Tumbleson was shot to death while trying to apprehend a fugitive in Montague County. Donna Maude Tumbleson had either died earlier or soon thereafter. My grandfather was raised in an Italian and Czech environment thereafter.
if i can find any additional information i'll be sure to pass it on.
shelly w. tumbleson
