I too understand that it is of Scandinavian decent, meaning interpreter, spokesman..norse Tulk-r Modern Scan Tolk....middle english period, Tulke, Tolke, denoted a soldier/knight.....this was taken from Dr. Seary's book of Newfoundland names. The Tulks who settled in Newfoundland appear to come from the Dorset area of England... There was a William Tulk , school teacher in early 1800's who came from Sherborne,,,, I cannot locate where my Charles Tulk came from but people who lived in the same community came from areas like Marnhull, Ringwood, Sherborne, Lydlynch
