Gary, I saw your message and maybe this will help. This came down through my grandmother who was researching the Atwell Smith/Lenette Tooke family in Madison County NY. The cover of this booklet is titled, "Latt's Smith Family." On the first page is the following:

Some History of the early Tukes in England

Sir Brian Tuke (d.1545) Sec. To Henry VIII was son of Richard Tuke (d.1498) and Agnes his wife, daughter of John Bland of Nottinghamshire. The family whose name was variously spelt Tooke, Tuke and Toke, settled in Kent and Sir Brian's grandfather's name was also Richard, and he is said to have been the tailor to Thomas Howard, second Duke of Norfolk. Possible through Norfolk influence Brian Tuke was introduced at Court. In 1516 he was made Knight of the Kings Body. In 1517 he was made Governor of the King (unreadable). For some time he was secretary to Woolsey. In 1522 he was promoted to French Sec. To the King. He married Grissel daughter of Nicholas Boughton of Woolrich. Three sons and three daughters were born. The eldest son Maximilian died before his father, the 2nd son Charles died soon after and the third son George inherited the property. He became Sheriff of Essex in 1587. The eldest daughter married George the 9th or 18 Baron of Audley. The second daughter married Sir Reginald Scott of Scott Hall Kent.
