My family remained in Brooklyn and later some moved to Long Island. The early folk spelled the name Tuite, Cuite and, on rare occasions, Cute. Earliest person I know of there is Patrick Cuite (Tuite) who arrived in the early 1860s. Died in Kings Park, Long Island, NY in 1895 and is buried in Brooklyn at Holy Cross Cemetery. Interestingly, his wife died 25 years later, is unknown to any of the current family survivors and is buried in a separate, non-familial plot. Must be some story there but, I fear, forever lost.
My grandfather always claimed Westmeath as the homeland. I'm fascinated with the fact that the name is so widespread and in so many different counties (although Louth and Westmeath aren't all that far apart.)
