I do not know too much about my family history but I will list what I do know. My father told me that ,as far as we know, James Tugman was one of the first Tugmans in our family. He was from London but was shipped to the U.S. to be a slave after stealing a pitch fork and a pig iron. After he worked off his debts, he became a land owner. Later on the Tugmans split up from disagreements about slavery. The half that liked slavery went to North Carolina, when the half that didn't went to Oregan. I am from the half that went to Oregan. Tugman Park is a state park in Oregan that was named after my great great grandfather, William M. Tugman.(He was one of my grandfathers but I forget the greats, I think he was my father's great grandfather but I'm not sure. Anyway, I am related).
