Woodard Tuggle Ancestry Change
Woodard Tuggle Descendent Changes.
I have documented information that disproves the relationship of James B. Tuggle to Woodard Tuggle who marries Martha Fraser.
Woodard Tuggle is the son of James Tuggle and Mary Wilson Tuggleof Gwinnett, Ga. Not a son of James B. Tuggle and Sarah Elizabeth Harrison Tuggle.
First:The 1860 Census record from Gwinnett, Georgia places Woodard Tuggle in the James and Mary Wilson Tuggle family with several of his brothers and sisters.
Second:The Will of James B. Tuggle who died in 1886.This Will alone proves that Woodard is not his son.He names all of his children, even those who are deceased in his Will. There is J.W. Tuggle listed as one of James B. Tuggles children. He is deceased and his heirs are left his share. This J.W. Tuggle cannot be Woodard Tuggle as Woodard does not die until 1888.(Look at the 1880 census of Walker County, Al. and you will see a James W. Tuggle located two farms from Edward Harrison Tuggle listed with his wife and 4 children. The wife is listed as S. F. and the children are son J.W. age 10, Emma, age 8, Zindersee age 6, and son S.A. age 3.It seems very possible thatthis is the J.W. Tuggle in James B. Tuggle’s Will and he would have died between 1880 and 1886..
Third:Woodard Tuggle was in the Civil War from Georgia not Alabama. He and his brother Manning joined at the same time and were captured at the same place during the War and this is documented in the Military records of this War.(Note Manning is also buried in Cordova, Al.His descendent, Joan Reich, who I am corresponding with, said that he came to Alabama later than Woodard and he is one of James and Mary Tuggle’s sons as seen on the 1860 Census.)If Woodard was James B. Tuggle’s son he would have come with the family and would have joined an Alabama Unit in the Civil War just as Edward Harrison Tuggle did.
1880 Census
This is the only census that Woodard Tuggle is in for Walker Alabama. He dies in 1888.His children are listed – Victoria b 1862, Sanford b 1864, Charlie b 1865, Custa A. (Augusta Ann Savannah) b 1868, Richmond b 1869, Hill b 1872, W. B. (Willis Britt) b 1874 and Fayette b 1876-7.I understand that there was also Lillian born 1882 and Christopher Columbus b 1885 , and they, of course, would not be on this census as they were born after 1880.
I would welcome any input and information concerning Woodard and his descendents.
