Thomas TUFTS m. Fanny Bootman - Gorham area of Maine 1700's ???

I have a bit of a possible confusion of names here that someone might be able to help me sort out.
I believe one of my ancestors might have been a Tufts THOMAS or a Thomas TUFTS who married Fanny BOOTMAN around the Gorham, Cumberland Co., area of Maine in the early 1700's. Tufts THOMAS or Thomas TUFTS may have been born in North Hampton, New Hampshire, but came to Gorham, ME from Tamworth, NH around 1776.
We have been wondering if perhaps this is not one and the same person but that the transcriber of the old VR's may have entered his name wrong thinking his last name was TUFTS when in fact it might have been THOMAS, or vice versa.
I am searching for the THOMAS - Bootman or TUFTS - Bootman connection that had a son named John THOMAS who married Miriam Crockett in Gorham, ME.
None of this may apply here at all but I have to research this angle just in case.
If Any of this sounds familiar Please leave a message here and I will find it.
Thank you for any help at all.
