In Reply to: Daniel Tuel Monroe Ohio - William Tuel, Margaret Knight by Lisa Cretsinger of 79

Margaret Knight was related to Barbary Dunkin, b: 1811/12 in NC. Barbary Dunkin m: John Tuel, b: 1802/3 near Huntsville, AL. Barbary & John, as Carter Tuell moved to Smythe Co., VA to have their family.

John Carter TUELL & William TUEL were brothers. Their father was John Toole, oldest son of Philip Henry O'Toole from Ireland.

Philip Henry O'Toole & his brother Abiagarthar O'Toole used the TILLEY surname to not appear so Irish when they crossed the ocean to America in 1700's. Philip was married and had 7-children, 6-boys & 1-girl. Both brothers fought in the American Rev. War together. Philip got killed about 1754.

When Abiagarthar took the news home to his brother's family, Philip's sons went in all directions. 1-boy went back across the ocean to where they came from; another boy went to the Phillipean Islands & married, this is the Tagaban surname ---now in Canada & southern states; John the oldest was the 1st to cross over into US from Canada into what is now OH. Here John Tool changed his surname to TUEL & m: a SELF woman whose family had came from AL.

John's younger brother Daniel Toole crossed over into US a little later, he went to Cherokee Strip & m: Sarah "Sally" Cotes. They moved to Bull Run, VA to have their family. This family later changed the COTES surname to CHOATES and told from England, and the Tuel surname was changed to TUELL, supposed to descend from John Tuell m: into Magna Carta Lineage in England.

Another brother "Abner Toole" settled in OH, he fought in the French & Indian War of 1812 & got killed. He never married. The last brother stayed in Canada & married. Touisant of "Lewis & Clark Expedition" is his descendent.

Philip Henry O'Toole/Toole's daughter did missionary work in Canada. She had a son that was raised in a missionary.

Abiagarthar O'Toole m: into the family of Seneca Chief - Goin or Black Snake. His descendents (some) later crossed over into ME and went down to MD, where they changed their surname to TEWELL and told they were royalty blood from Ireland. These guys settled around Nelson Co., KY to fight in the different wars for their freedom & right to own land, for some had married slaves from the Tuttle Plantation in IA. Which had been bought by 3-sons of English - John Tuell (magna carta lineage.)

Both Philip Henry & Abiagarthar O'Toole settled around Prince Edward Island in Canada.

Philip Henry's oldest son John Toole/Tuel m: SELF woman. Their sons William Tuel, b: 1801, in Smythe Co., VA & John Tuel, b: 1802/03, Near Huntsville, AL fought from the time they were small, the older they got the worse they fought. John had a air that he was better than like his mother and William Tuel did not. (Their mother, SELF woman was a descendent of James Anderson SELF of Huntsville, AL. The Huntsville, AL Indians)

John TUEL 1st enlisted in the cavalry in OH & used the TEWELL spelling, but told he was from IN, when his family were living in OH & IA.

John Tuel had 3-wives using different names with each wife & family while he fought Indians and he was 1/2. His 1st wife was Barbary Duncan living in Smythe Co., VA, as Mrs. Carter Tuell. His 2nd wife was Julia Ann "Tewell" Willison, b: 1812 in Nelson Co., KY, as Mrs. John Tewell. His 3rd wife was Marter Smithsian/Mattie Ready of Bull Run, VA; Marter/Mattie was a younger niece of Barbary Duncan, his 1st wife ----she, as Mrs. John Hunt Morgan.

Some within the family later called the FEUD between John & William TUEL --------THE FEUD THAT TORE THE TOOL SOUNDING NAME APART FOREVER.

Both brothers fell in love with Julia Ann Tewell Willison and she m: John because he was working in the cavalry and had a way to support her. William was unemployed at the time. After John's death on 4 SEPT 1864. Some of the family sided with William and others sided with John's family. Some changed their names and even changed their ancestries to appear not related. Some changed their ancestries to William TULL. (The surname of TUTTLE was changed to TULL.)

William TUEL brother of John Tuel/Tuell/Tewell/Morgan, married Margaret KNIGHT (a relative of Barbary Dunkin/Duncan from NC)after the Civil War ended.
