MAY FRANCES STICKNEY, daughter of MR. and MRS. C.W. STICKNEY, was born at Olney, Illinois May 3l, l876, and passed away at her home in Garden Grove, July 23, l925. Being at the time of her death 49 years, l month and 23 days of age.
Her father passed away when she was about sixteen years of age, her mother having preceded her father to the Great Beyond just a few years. A brother died in infancy, and a sister, LILLIAN, passed away at the home of herself and husband in Garden Grove a number of years ago. Her father was engaged in the newspaper business at Sheldon, Illinois, at the time of his death, which business she and her sister continued for a brief time until the business was disposed of when they moved to Parkville, Mo., to be near an uncle and aunt, MR. and MRS. J.P. TUCKER and to have the advantages of the college located there.
It was here she met R.C. HOADLEY at the college social activities and they were married January l9, l900. They took up their residence here in Garden Grove and entered the newspaper business and have made their home here ever since.
To this union were born five children. HELEN, GRETCHEN, MARGARET, ELEANOR and ROBERT, all of whom survive her and were at home at the time of her death, except GRETCHEN, who was in Des Moines taking summer work at Drake University.
Her passing came at the end of a long illness, while sudden had been expected. On moving to Parkville, Mo., she joined the Methodist Church and upon taking up her residence in Garden Grove with her husband, joined the Presbyterian Church.
She has been identified with the local ladies organizations, W.R.C., W.C.T.U., and the O.E.S. and was active in the organization of the library association, and was librarian until her health failed, which work she dearly loved.
During her long illness, she was very patient and very appreciative of the many kindnesses showered upon her by her many friends and neighbors and of the many efforts to make her lot as pleasant as possible. She was a kind, fond mother and wife and her loss will be keenly felt in the home. Her life was an open book in the community and her passing will be deeply regretted.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church in Garden Grove, Saturday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Huffman, interment being in the Garden Grove Cemetery.
