Minerva Tucker of the Rhea County (TN) Spartans
Minerva Tucker was among young women ofRhea County, TN, who organized semi-militarily as the Rhea County Spartans to benefit the Confederacy during the Civil War.(The story of these "sidesaddle soldiers" is on Internet; search "Rhea County Spartans, Civil War.") So few Tuckers lived in that county at the time that Minerva MAY BE Minerva McKamy Frazier (1844-1870) who married George Livingston Tucker in Rhea County in 1863. (A few of the Spartans were married.) George (1831-1878) was from Bradley County, TN, and in early childhood lived in Burke/present Caldwell County, NC. He died tragically in Rhea County after Minerva, survived by one of their daughters, Hannah Minerva Tucker (1866-1892) who married William W. Cunnyngham. The Minerva known to me fits the Spartan profile, including residence in the Washington/Dayton area of Rhea Co. Her parents were Nicholas Gibbs Frazier and his wife, Hannah Minerva McKamy.Should anyone know about the REAL Minerva of the Spartans, any number of other people would be so happy to learn her identity.
Thanks!
Sarah
