Data on living individuals - an action

Years ago at the dawn of the internet genealogy phenomena, a brother provided a well-meaning family researcher with vital statistics on our parents, siblings, spouses, and children. This information was duly published in a printing of less than 100 copies. At the time I was annoyed with both my brother and the researcher. That grew to anger as more and more "researchers" who would not divulge the same information about their own families, saw nothing hypocritical about including the data in their Worldconnect files.

When the initial researcher gave permission for another party to publish the book on the web in pdf, we'd had enough. And surprisingly, to me, both Ancestry.com and Genforum agreed with our privacy concerns. As of today, all references to living persons in my family containing identifying data have been removed. In some cases this has meant deleting the entire Worldconnect files of authors who were more interested in their right to a body count than our legal privacy right. Currently we are pursuing the pdf poster through his service connector with encouraging responses.

Thanks Ancestry and Genforum, and for others in similar situations, take action, do not be a victim of genealogy egotism run rampant.
