Elizabeth Phillips was the daughter of Nancy Neely and a Mr. Phillips; some say his name was John and others say it was Robert.I don't know which is right. He was born ca 1752 and died ca 1827 in Lawrence Co TN.Nancy Neely was born ca 1752 in Antrium Co Ireland and died bef March 1824 in Lawrence Co TN.I think I got this information from Shannon Phillips, a Phillips researcher.
There is a short book called "Hugh Campbell of Giles County, Tennessee and Related Families" written by Margaret Ward Wooten (published 1990).It is available at the Giles County, TN public library. In her book, Ms. Wooten included a xerox copy of a page from "The Highlander," a magazine about Campbells in America. The page includes a letter written to the magazine in the early to mid 1900's (if memory is serving me correctly) by a descendant of Hugh Campbell. This descendant divides Hugh's children into two groups, with Gustin being the youngest of the first group who were children of a "Miss Phillips."Later he married Mary Snipes.Through others' research, her name was found to be Elizabeth Phillips.
Here's a list of Elizabeth and her siblings.
1)Elizabeth Phillips was born before 1795 in SC and died ca 1819-1820 in Giles Co TN.She married Hugh Campbell.
2)Jane Phillips was b: Bet. 1786-1788 in SC and married Alexander Harvey, Sr.; lived in Giles and later lived and died in Lauderdale Co AL.
3)John Phillips was born in SC and lived for a while in Giles. He died in Gibson County, Indiana. He married Mary "Polly" Harvey.
4)James Neely Phillips died in 1832 in Lauderdale Co AL.He lived for a time in Giles.
5)William Phillips was born in SC and lived for a time in Giles. He died in Gibson County, Indiana. He married Elizabeth Harvey.
6)Thomas Phillips was born in South Carolina and lived for a time in Giles. He might have died in Arkansas.
Much of this information came from Shannon Phillips.
The Phillips and Harveys are on record in Fairfield Co SC and also in early Giles Co TN quite a bit.I have personally researched the line of Elizabeth Phillips and Hugh Campbell and also the line of Jane Phillips and Alexander Harvey. However, I have not studied the others.
