WINSTON COUNTY

CHESTER TUBB, of Haleyville. representative in the Legislature, 1915, from Winston county, was born May 7, 1887 at Day’s Gap (now Oakman) Walker county, Ala.; Is the son of Dr. James Madison and Dorothy (Hamilton) Tubb, of Bessemer, Ala.; and the grandson of Samuel and Malinda (Cranford) Tubb and of Elbert and Susan (Vanselt) Hamilton, and the greatgrandson of Daniel and Matilda (Sanders) Tubb and of John Cranford and Elizabeth (Wilkes) Cranford and of Barton Hamilton. Two of the great-grandfathers, Daniel Tubb and John Cranford, served In the War of 1812, and were in the battle of New Orleans. Samuel Tubb, the grandfather, served in the War of Secession. 5th Ala. Cav. Regt.; and was captured In the latter part of 1864, and sent to Rock Island where he remained until the end of the war. Representative Tubb was educated in the schools of Bessemer; graduated from the High School there in 1903; and graduated from the University of Alabama In 1912 with the degree of LL. B. He at once entered upon the practice of his profession in Haleyville, of which he has been city attorney for two terms, of one year each. He is the Secretary of the Winston County Fair Association, which he inaugurated in 1914. He is a Republican; was a member of committee from Winston county to the State Convention of his party in Birmingham, 1914, and member of Congressional delegations In the same year. He is a Presbyterian. On April 2, 1915. he was married to Ethel, daughter of Walker W. and Martilla (Taylor) Haley, of Haleyville.
