Dear Mikki,

Many, many thanks. I love getting more information on lines as new parents open up all new possibilities. The Steele family is very familiar. But I'm thinking that Waddam (very unusual) and Wright might be Dutch, as at least in NY, Wright was originaly wraeght. I have a German-Dutch KY line in which my gmother was Mary Conkwright--originally Kankwraeght from Sleepy Hollow NY.

I did a lot of internet searching last week because of a book I just finished which is a horticultural history of Bergen Co. NJ and the Dutch settled Bergen Co. and set the landscaping tone. The publisher and I met with the Dutch Consul General last week about it. They're celebrating the 400th Anniv. of Henry Hudson's sail who was working for the Dutch. I'll google "Waddams" and see what I find.

Anyway, it appears that Peter (the NY Line), Francis, and William (ours) Tryon were cousins in Holland. As you may know Sir William Tryon was the British loyalist governor of NC and NY. Fort Tryon in Manhattan is named after him as re streets and counties in both states. He commanded forces that attacked Danbury, CT.

My Joseph was captain of the 8th CT militia and was in the battles of Brooklyn and White Plains. Sons Charles and David ran a famous shipyard in Chatham and built USS Boxer, USS Saranac and 2 privateers Holkars I and II for the War of 1812. I'm in touch with an Australian descendant of a woman convict (1 of 43) captured by Holkar I. They were put off on the CApe Verde Islands and taken back to London. On their 2nd trip out she met her future husbad. So had not Holkar captured her first ship, she may not have met her future husband, Elizabeth's ancestors. Pretty cool, eh and we're now in touch and may do a joint article.

PS--am waiting for my Foote cousin to answer about his in KY.
Kay
