Misuse of Family Information
Why do some genealogists feel they have the right to post the personal and private information of still living people?Isn't it a convention in compiling family trees that those still living are only referred to in general terms if at all?A person's personal information is their information, not information to be used by others and posted willy nilly on such a world wide forum as the internet. It is at least a courtesy if a person wants to publish the personal information of another individual, to request permission of the person the information is relevant to. It is a legal requirement in some jurisdictions that this be done.Genealogy is an interesting hobby but it should not be carelessly used as a vehicle to be inappropriately mishandling the personal information of others.
