How do I find out if its true?

Greetings,

My mother was Claire Trudeau, from Waltham, MA. She had 4 brothers and 5 sisters. They are: Earnest, Lionel, Roland, Paul, Louise, Alice, Lorraine, Theresa and Jeanne.

Growing up we were told that we were related to former Prime Minister of Canada, Pierre Trudeau.

I've not done any genealogy and have no idea how to find out if this is true. Could anyone help?
