Dear Ms. Walls, Thank you for the quick reply and the information that you sent. I am descended from Elizabeth Truby who was born in Virginia in 1787, married John Corder McNamar in Greene Co., Ohio, in 1805, and died in Owen Co., Indiana, 1850-1860. Elizabeth may have been daughter of John "Christopher" Truby and his wife Eve who died in Greene Co., Ohio, in 1817 and 1831, respectively, and the great-granddaughter of Christoph and Maria Catharine. Incidentally, have you seen the following post regarding the Arabic origin of the Truby name? What do you make of it? Best regards, John Rogers http://genforum.genealogy.com/truby/messages/156.html Linda, Thanks for your response to my email re: Truby's. My ancestors come from the same root as yours, although mine comes from one of the brothers of Christopher of Western Pa. Mine was a brother, John who went to West(ern) Virginia and his son came into Ohio. My hang-up is in the origin of the Truby name. One of the original Manuscripts about the original Truby shows his name spelled as Drube(i) with an umlat on the u. Supposedly, the name originated with the Spanish Jews who were ejected by Queen Isabella in 1492. However, I can't find any current Spanish names that are even close. But, there are currently many Arabs with the name Drubi. I also know the Arabs were booted by Isabella too. Therefore, if appears the name could be Arabic --- specifically, perhaps Moroccan. By the way, can you provide details on your arrival at Maria Catherine's maiden name? I had never seen that before. I am thrilled to get a new name in the tree. Thanks Cuz.
