The above article makes general reference to the use of Y-DNA testing in support of traditional TROUT/TROUTT family research. The following is the link to the actual TROUT-DNA Research Project:

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/TROUT_DNA_Research_Project/default.aspx?/publicwebsite.aspx

Our project provides traditional TROUT/TROUTT genealogical research resources, supplemented with the scientific proofs available through genetic genealogy. All known spelling variations of the TROUT name are included, such as TROUTT, TRAUT, TRAUDT, DRAUT, TRAUTZ, etc. (selected examples). As of this writing, we formally track (73) TROUT- spelling variant family lines, and maintain research awareness of perhaps (30) additional lines, including their links back to Germany, England, and several other regions. We have project members from five countries.

This is a not-for-profit research project with no membership dues or access charges involved. The only costs ever involved are the actual lab processing fees if a researcher decides to participate in Y-DNA testing.
