Lydia Trissel / Trisler, 1803 PA, md 1 Strayer, 2 Chris Hankes, Miami Co., IN
Who were the parents of Lydia Trissel -- or Trisler? From what I am gleaning from the internet, Trissel is just an Anglicized variant of the German name Drechsler or Drichsler.
Per the 1850 census of Miami County, Indiana, Lydia was age 47, and therefore born in 1802 or 1803, in Pennsylvania. (Note that the "4" on her age is hard to read, and has been mistranscribed as a "2" -- but clearly she was not 27!)
Only two children are known from her first marriage -- to a Mr. Strayer: Simon Strayer born about 1823 in Pennsylvania, and Samuel Strayer, born about 1835 in Ohio. Presumably Mr. Strayer died soon thereafter, as no younger Strayer children are found with Lydia on the 1850 census.
In April of 1850, Lydia had married Christopher Henckes / Hankiss / Hanks / Hingus, a widower with several children still at home.
Any help would be appreciated, as I only learned of Lydia's maiden name this weekend and know next to nothing about the Trissel families of Pennsylvania and points west.
I do have the 1800 census index of Pennsylvania, which shows several families bearing different versions of this last name.Only one of them is in old Northumberland County, the area where Lydia's first husband most likely lived at the time of their marriage (though I have found no record of the marriage thus far).
