HI Warren - good to hear from you, yes there does seem to be a high frequency of shared names doesn't there and area. Do you know if your Trick family had anything to do with shoemaking, that was my John Tricks trade I found a John Trick (probably my John Tricks father) working as a shoemaker in Mill Street Bideford in 1823. I have traced my John Trick in Bristol up until 1849 working as a shoemaker (from the trade directories of the time). I have ordered up the gaol documentation for John and Mary Ann but it will probably be another couple of weeks yet. They received "a gown, trousers, a pair of gloves and other items, the property of John Maggs of Stapleton, knowing them to have been stolen," John was realeased after a couple of months and Mary Ann got 18 months hard labour. while Mary Ann was still in prison john went to work for his landlord a certain John Bush who was trading as a Marine dealer from Clarence Road Bristol. I cannot find John in the records past 1849 (no death certificate yet either) but Mary Ann describes herself as a widow in 1851 and marries John Bush not long after.
Regards Lynne
