Sally:

According to the Abbeville, SC censuses of 1840 & 1850, there were 3 Tribble families living there.

The E. Tribble of the 1840 census was Elijah Tribble. His family is as follows:
201001 021001
Elijah Tribble, b. 1797 Abbeville Co., SC m Bethena Shirley
Children:
Dicey Tribble, b 1827
Nipper Tribble, b. 1829, m Delilah ?
Rachel Tribble, b 1831
Nancy Tribble, b. 1833
Reuben Tribble, b. 1836
James G. Tribble, b. 1841

Also residing in Abbeville Co. in 1840 was John Tribble. His family is as follows:
02001 10001
John Tribble, b. 13 May 1811, d. 24 Feb 1841 in Abbeville Co., SC. M. 2 Jan 1831 Esther Clinkscales
Children:
Lemuel Newton Tribble, b. 9 May 1832
William Milton Tribble, b. 29 Apr 1834
(son) Tribble, b. 1836, twin
(daughter) Tribble, b. 1836, d. 1836, twin
Margaret Alcanza Tribble, b. 24 Mar 1838
Mary Elminia Tribble, b 11 Oct 1840

John was a nephew of Elijah.

In the 1850 census you can see John’s wife, Essie, and her 2 sons and 2 daughters as you state. John had died in early 1841.

I don’t know if this helps in your research.
