THE TREPANIER'S
FAMILY TREE

This version came from a 1981 study by a Selpucian Brother named: Normand Trepanier, in Quebec City and are excerpts from a book containing 400 pages.

The name TREPANIER comes from France.

There is a small town South East of Paris, France called "EPERNAY".

In France in the 1700's a lot of people immigrated to Canada and used only their first names and in our case it was "Romain" who arrived up the St. Lawrence River and landed in a small town east of Quebec city called "Chateau Richer".

At that point in time the immigrants who landed there were met by the Jesuit Priests who inscribed (registered) everybody on parchment paper with quill pens. Romain was asked 'what's your name?' and 'where were you from?', he replied "ROMAIN DE EPERNAY" and this was written on bumpy parchment paper, but it came out as: "ROMAN DESTREPAGNY". Over the years it changed (due to illiteracy) to 'TREPANIER'.
