Good point, and that point is true, but what WE are dealing with now, with DNA on the scene is that IT is proving that many of the past assumed connections, which you know says something else (tongue in my cheek), is that DNA is proving that some of the earlier assumed paper trail connections that were made and which have been standard lineage connections for what now, a hundred yrs. (based on the limited paper that was available until the digital age) are proving TO NOT BE the right connections.
Sure in the case of our old William(#1) Trent (SR.) we can still probably assume that he has a male son that HE named William Trent and would and could logically be called (JR.)!
However that paper trail that has been used since then that has said that William Trent md. to Sarah Bryant WAS HIS SON and the (2nd.) William Trent and the (Jr.) is now and has now been proven to NOT BE TRUE>>> SO who does that past assume William Trent belong to? WE do not know, but WE do know via DNA that HE does NOT belong to William(#1) Trent (SR.) of Chesterfield Co., VA.
AS to whether he was or is a bastard son, a son of a HOWELL or who? is now of course up in the air and so any one who in the past has hooked their discoveries and their family to Wm. & Sarah Bryant Trent and think THAT THAT hooks them to the William(#1) Trent (SR.) are out in left field as that hookage is NOW NOT TRUE, not IF WE accept DNA evidence into the "practice of Genealogy".....
AND if the now known (2nd.) William Trent of Chesterfield Co., VA is the original SON of old William(#1) (SR.) and he leaves the scene without a wife and children or does so without leaving a paper trail, then we have NO WAY of knowing who hooks to him? At least as I read the DNA messages and setups... cause we need a current male and a descent of him, and at this point we have none, as he left no heirs that can traced forward up to today.... no known children, no tracing upwards, even IF THERE were some!!
SO the PAST statements of events and history that have have ascribed to William md. to Sarah Bryant and intended to show that HE was the legal birth 2nd. William Trent and was or is to be known as William(#2) Trent (JR.).... well those statements of events have to now be moved over to him and away from the William md. to Sarah Bryant.... WE CANNOT leave incorrect data and events being ascribed to a man who IS NOT THE SON of William(#1) Trent (SR.) and act as IF IT does not matter...... NOT that NOW DNA testing has come on the scene.....!!!!!
THAT is all I'm saying and so in my data base I have to take those events and data that I have for 30 yrs. given to certain individuals, starting with the one presumed to have been the (2nd.) William Trent, and I have to move them to another!!!
I (WE) may have to do the same for the (2nd.) HENRY, JOHN, BENJAMIN, Capt. Henry Trent of Amherst, and who knows(?) how many others as DNA RESETS what was thought to be a LOCKED IN STONE PAPER TRAIL...... cause NOW ALL THAT IS IN DOUBT!!!! and WE have to figure out how to unassign and reassign data and events......!!!!!!
THAT IS far more then just presuming an illegt child.... that "ISSUE" is not the one that is messing up and will greatly change ALL current and known genealogy lines! WE can not act as if it is not happening!!!!!
