"Our" Trempers came from Neuwied, where their children were born. The surviving children all came to New York around 1720. Priscilla Tremper Leith gave the source for that information, plus the fact that we were in that area trying to find out more about those Trempers. The Heinrich Tremper of Braubach whom we visited said his ancestors were from Roth (Berndroth, e.g.). The Berndroth area connects to Neuwied via the Lahn River, which includes the city of Nassau on the Lahn. Three or 4 of the sponsors of Tremper childrens' baptisms came from Nassau. We wonder if our Tremper line came from Berndroth area down the Lahn to Nassau and then Neuwied, possibly over more than one generation ca. 1640-1680. The various church books in churches of Nassau and adjacent towns need to be examined for Tremper baptisms! Heinrich Tremper of Braubach was the father of the film critic and director, Wilhelm "Will" Tremper of Munich and Berlin (1928-ca. 1999). See Wilhelm's autobiography, "Meine Wilden Jahre" (1993, Ullstein, Frankfurt/Main). Soenke, if you run out of things to do, start reading old church baptism and marriage records from up and down the Lahn River and around the Roth-Berndroth area! J.
