Was in the army for the Indian Wars and Reconstruction in the South.Enlisted in Detroit, Michigan in 1866, mustered out in Spartanburg, SC in 1871.His mother was Zoe Paitvin/Patvin.He received a pension due to his service and wounds while in the service.His pension file at the National Archives includes his application for the pension but also includes letters from his mother who was searching for him and also many letters from one of his daughters, Nora, who was seeking reimbursment for his invalid care and burial.His 3rd wife had also sent in an application for widow's benefits though she had abandoned him when he became unable to care for himself.
