This couple has an interesting story.
Elizabeth Haynes married #1 John Harris 20 Jan 1882 in Kaiapoi, New Zealand. They had three sons: Leonard Haynes, Ernest William and Francis Carn. John was killed in a flash flood while delivering mail to the ranch he lived on. John's body was never found, only the body of his horse. After John's death, Elizabeth brought their children to the United States in about 1899/1900. She met William Tremayne either in New Zealand, or on the ship to the US. William adopted Elizabeth's sons. The three boys adopted the name Tremayne. Their names became Harris-Tremayne. William and Elizabeth were married 7 Sep 1907 in Napa, Napa, CA. They had a neighbor who died shortly after giving birth to a son. The father of the baby thought it would be best if William and Elizabeth adopted his newborn son. They did adopt Frederick Haynes Tremayne.
William Tremayne was born in 1840 in Cornwall District, England and died in 1924 in Hayward, Alameda, CA. He is buried at Lone Tree Cemetery in Hayward, CA. Elizabeth Haynes was born 3 Oct 1856 in Helmshore, Lancashire, England. Her parents were James Haynes and Sarah Wright. James was a Manchester Police Constable.

Any information on this family would be appriciated.
