Kay, You mentioned that Phyllis Diller is a descendant of Ludwig Treiber. Is that the Ludwig of central PA who was born about 1728. He is my 5th great grandfather. This family was Mennonite so records are scarce. Some of the later generations did indeed change the name to Driver. (Just like some Pa Germans changed Zimmerman to Carpenter - which is what the name translates to in English. One group moved to Virginia and later on to Ohio. Those who moved generally seem to have kept the name Treiber. However one group that stayed in eastern York Co. PA changed it to Driver. These were descendants of Jacob (Jr.) and Mary Strickler Driver (Treiber). I am descended from their daughter Elizabeth who married Jacob Tyson. Elizabeth had two bothers, Moses and Jacob S. and two sisters Margaret and Mary. Could you be connected to any of these. (I have not viewed this site in a while, so that is why I am replying so late.)
Jan
