Hello,
I was interested to read about so many Treharne families. My great-grandfather was also called John Treharne. My maiden name is Treharne. The name is Welsh and Cornish. The interpretation for Treharne in Welsh is Tre = Town and harn = iron. I don't know if this helps anyone in their research. It is also a Cornish name (there is a poem which describes four types of prefixes which identify Cornish names and "Tre" is one of them). My family comes from a small town called Ponthenry in Carmarthenshire (Dyfed), not far from Llanelli. My father was an only child and my father's father was one of 10 children. If anybody knows they are related to my family, could you please get in contact with me. I believe (from family stories!) our family originated in Cornwall, many ancestors ago and a Ship's Captain bearing our name came from Cornwall to South Wales and stayed there. Thanks.
