I am grateful to have the opportunity to post the first message on this forum. I am hoping that some of the descendants of Johann Adam Trefts and his wife, Sophia Reeb, will find this forum and share information with us. Sophia Reeb, daughter of Johann Theobald Reeb and Sophia Catharina Goehring, was born 9 January 1795 in Keskastel, Bas-Rhin, France. This area of northeastern France had only a couple of years before belonged officially to the Counts of Nassau-Weilburg and in earlier times was known as Nassau-Saarwerden. Keskastel is very near the Sarre River and in the region surrounded on one side by what had been known for centures as Lothringen (Lorraine) and on the other by Alsace (aka Elsass). Sophia Reeb's parents and her maternal grandfather, Heinrich Wilhelm Goehring had all come from Keskastel through the port of Baltimore in the year of 1803. I have no date of marriage, however at some date prior to 1819 Sophia Reeb was married to Johann Adam Trefts, who was born about 1795 in Germany. Their children included John J. Trefts, Johann Gottlieb whose name became spelled TREFTZ after relocation to Davenport,Iowa, Mariana; Johann Heinrich; Johann Friedrich Adam; Anna Margaretha; Jacob; Sophia; Susanaa and a second Frederick Trefts. Johann Adam and Sophia (Reeb) Trefts moved to Cambria County where most of their children continued to live and raise families. However one son Gottlieb moved to Scott County, Iowa and for the later years of his life lived in the city of Davenport. Also Sophia Reeb Trefts is believed to have eventually joined her son in Iowa where she is reported to have spent her last years. I have collected some of the records from both Cambria County, PA but mostly from Scott County, Iowa. For the descendants of this particular Trefts/Treftz family I can provide the lineage of Sophia Reeb Trefts back in time to the 1599 baptism of a Heinrich Reeb, son of a Jacob Reeb in the village of Herbitzheim which is located only a few kilometers from Keskastel. Hope to see a lot of activity on this Treftz forum in the coming days. John V. Reeb
