Hi Liam!
Trefethen is a Cornish name. Most of us are from Henry Trefethen, the 'original' American Trefethen, probably immigrating from Cornwall, Wales and was in N.H. by 1687. Settled in New Castle, NH.

The main Trefethen site is http://sugar-river.net/~ctref/Genealogy/TrefGene.html There is also a Trevethan site, for a family that came much later. We're all related just can't prove it because we haven't found proof of Henry's parentage yet.

Would be happy to help your granson. I'll look for the e-mails that have the history of the name later after I get back from vacation.
