Thanks for the response. I was recently given a copy of the Rev. War pension file for William A. White's widow. I'm trying to place this family in my White and Bell families of New Castle.
According to the file William A. White m. Joanna L. Bell 31 Jul 1838. Previous to marrying Joanna,he was "married to Margaret Trefethen who died on or about January 1st 1838 at Portsmouth, NH" William A. White was born at New Castle, NH, 14 April 1795 and was a sailor.
the 1850 Portsmouth, NH census lists William, Joanna and five children of their marriage. Then there are two older children: James 25 and William H. 22.
Research that my father in law did while Town Historian in New Castle says "Wm. A. White m. Margaret Trefethen of Kittery 1817."
Do you think this Margaret is the Margaret you were referring to?
