Thankyou Paul - that would be very useful. Have you also tried in Aveton Gifford (also close to Modbury)? The name SHERIFF (with one R) is listed in parish records there. If you haven't seen it yet, try this site <http://www-civ.eng.cam.ac.uk/cjb/agrecord.htm> by Chris Burgoyne who is transcribing PRs for AG. Chris will happily print you a list of PR entries from his database if you ask him. Jon
