The surname "treat" was originally derived from the english name, "Trott." There are several web pages that can trace the Ancestry of a certain John Trott who lived in the 14th century to governor Robert Treat. These early treats lived in the english county of somerset, many in or around a small town called Taunton. It is legend there that Robert Treat was angry about a tax imposed upon him to buy a new church bell there, and so he left for america. There is a pagient held in Taunton, England annually that commemorates this event. Here is a website where you could learn more information.
